Why not expanded background checks for assault weapons? Not for your basic hunting weapons like shot guns or home self protection things like handguns. Just for assault weapons that don't really have an actual purpose and cause much of this problem. Just don't see why this isn't a middle ground kind of area.

I hear you and I think you are right when it comes to priorities from both sides. We seems to be making things worse and not better. Sadly every thing now is a political battle one side completely hates the other and that makes the chances of meaningful change way too low. And Democrats share their part of that problem. I can't back Trump level Republicans I have known too many con men in my life n business to buy into his game he wants enrich himself n his over anyone else. But there are some Republicans out there with positive ideas as to the economy and American based financial workings and I would vote for that. Believe me I want to be richer and more secure just like u and everyone else. I want max value from my savings etc I wish we had a candidate that ran as an independent. that took some of the financial aspects of republicans and some of the social aspects of dems and knew how to find the middle. Those 2 things can coexists but sadly neither side wants to give in and these kinds of guys can't make it into a dog catcher position much less Washington. So we have to sit here and decide which is the lesser of the two evils. For me its the Dem side but I def understand why it wouldn't be for u and I do share a lot of your frustrations.

Background Check bill HR8 is said to have bipartisan support from both sides. It doesn't do away with any amendments it doesn't take any one's guns away etc, its not radical in any way possible. It has been sitting for 2 years because Republicans even who support it won't vote for it for fear of losing NRA donations and fact that it may piss off a hillbilly or two, many of which it wouldn't even effect. Why can't this be brought to the senate floor today and passed? All it would take is some Republican votes... Dems would vote for it in a heartbeat. Its better than doing nothing at all!

Cmon Jimmy Republicans have fought to make all these things happen and are still fighting for much of it now. Independent school districts aren't pushing the banning of books and or banning them on their own Republicans like Desantis have made this a state and federal issue. The school boards doing this are run by Republicans following this lead. Republicans fought to ban mask mandates from day one and would still fight them today no matter what science said was the benefit that is clear. Republicans are fighting to ban abortions in almost every red state - just take a look at bills on the floor of state governments across the country - a possibility opened up by a majority republican filled supreme court. Let's not act like either of us are fools here by trying to muddy the water as to what's happening and who's behind it. But where are the Republicans fighting for tighter restrictions on assault weapons, tighter back ground checks. We aren't talking about taking away the 2nt Amendment simply laws that other countries have and that keeps them safer than American children are here today in schools and malls. How can we lose kids like this over n over again without doing something? Will any Republican step up and say Okay Dems this is what we can do, something meaningful, so lets vote and pass something tomorrow, who cares who benefits or who looks good by doing it, its needed. Gas prices are high in America and u say biden this and biden that... but look around step back for 1 min and u would see gas prices are higher in tons of other countries as well, for many reasons including a war that biden didn't start. These are world wide problems that biden or anyone for that matter cant solve with the stroke of a pen. Legislation here could help some but lets face it Republicans wont pass a single bill fuck they wont pass a bill for baby formula because they are scared it may help biden look good. So I ask u where is the root of the real problems here? Biden has been President for just a over a year he hasn't passed enough legislation to make any of the current problems what they are, could dems do more to help I think so and they are trying we will see how much can get done with no help what so ever from the other side. I def get that. Hell I think we have all lost a chunk when it comes to investments etc of late and its frustrating and I think Biden and the brain trust need to take a look at some different routes when it comes to battling this inflation. Problem is that its not just a America thing inflation is up world wide so its a tougher problem today than it even seems. But a lot of the reasons why inflation is out of control is because of what happened in previous years not just in America but everywhere, we all know that the economy doesn't change on a dime, it takes time it runs in cycles so what is happening today is a ripple effect of previous decisions. That's not blaming anyone that is just a simple fact. I agree we cannot keep blaming 1 person for everything but we have to keep some things in context like the economy and reasoning. I really wish Dems would put aside the climate fight or at least some parts of it for now in order to try and at least take a bite out of the inflation problem as best they can using that aspect. Oil companies are raping us and again that's not Biden's fault these fuckers have been allowed to run over us for years and years now and make ridiculous profits regardless of oil prices and the market, its out of control. That has to be dealt with BUT there has to be a middle ground there and that probably comes with giving in on some aspects of the climate change fight, I would be fine if both sides met in the middle there esp in short term. I don't hate all republicans (even if I don't agree with em on most things obviously) I hate Trump republicans those two groups are not the same. You are a smart guy WVU you know the economy doesn't change in a day or even months its a cycle and Biden walked into a cluster fuck. The Trump Tax Cuts gave the rich and corps ridiculous tax breaks that we are now feeling the effects of, hey Biden didn't pass em they did and the data doesn't lie but Republicans did, they have caused plenty of problems which is now a ripple effect. No matter who was in office pandemic conditions would have to be dealt with. Has every move Biden has made worked? Of course not but no one is going to make every right move, what President has ever batted a thousand? Some things prob should and could have been done differently and perhaps it would have helped to some degree, I don't think anyone can deny that. And he is to blame for some of what hasn't worked hey he made the call he takes it hit, those are the breaks. Putin started a war Biden didn't do that but he has to deal with it. This has also caused the current economic climate to change in a negative way. How can Biden take the blame for something Putin did? I don't agree with his stance on everything that's for sure. I don't agree with Dems on everything as a whole. But one thing I do know for sure 1000% is that Trump is a piece of shit who only cared about enriching himself and those around him he doesn't give a fuck about this country, he is a con man and I would think someone as smart as yourself would have figured that out. So from that perspective we are better off with Biden than we would have been with a crook in office for any longer than he was.
