  2. the famous sunscreen line comes from a kurt vonnegut commencement address. vonnegut was one of the great thinkers. have read all of his books even though scifi not really my preferred genre. in actuality its excellent advice. you can call me gene
  3. george raveling once said he read a book a day. the gentleman from the speedreading course said the same. that is quite the lofty goal and ole gene is only shooting for one per week. i used to get those audiobooks from the library and listen to them on the way to work and home. not commuting as much these days. the goal is more one book a week for this codger. for the younger generation there are a plethora of educational videos available on the world wide web. that is all for now. you can call me gene
  4. mr trotter you make an excellent point. being a neophyte here was trying to differentiate between eugene and gene. going for the more informal casual approach. not a strict adherent to the time saving thing just like i do not follow every step that fellow taught me in the online speedreading course. although i must say it has upped my pages per minute. either way a pleasure to make your acquaintance you can call me gene
  5. not quite sure who is broke here. still trying to place the faces and characters. you can probably learn something from anyone and would likely sit down to break bread or tip a glass with most. although sometimes it is best to avoid a bad egg when you are cleaning out the chicken coop. you can call me gene
  6. mr camper whatever is going on in your life right now please know that you are important and that you are loved. just because we choose not to better ourselves today does not mean we cannot improved ourselves tomorrow. let me know if i can help gene
  7. just about gave up on the square picture thing. alicia told me to stop cursing. fifteen minutes wasted that i feel like john singer. you can call me gene
  8. the way of success is the continuous pursuit of knowledge. i dont profess to know everything about everything. sometimes i know a little bit about something. when i dont then i seek out someone smarter than me that specializes in that field. whether it is gambling handicapping or lifes little peculiarities there is probably someone somewhere that is smarter than me in that particular area of speciality. we would not want to find a person that was not smart and listen to them on things that they did not know. however they are probably smarter in one area than i am. that is why it is important to steer the conversation to their specialization and glean some knowledge from them. a long time ago a man told me posting capital letters was minus ev. he took things to the extreme with no punctualization no capitalization and abbreviated every other word. you could still get the gist of what he was saying and he would be proud and puff out his chest for the seconds he had saved. gene hed say for every time i capitalize a word or use a comma that is a second i could be gaining knowledge. he had a point and that was when i replaced my leisure time of web surfing lackluster activities to watching speeches of people smarter that me and taking classes or even videos of special knowledge. point being a rising tide lifts all boats and you need to seek our the guy in the yacht and find out what he did to get it. you can call me gene.
  9. it seems you too are bereft of a little common sense. was not referring to rosey there at all in that reply. follow the clues and signs gentlemen. they are right in front of you. you can call me gene.
  10. looks a bit like you forgot to change your log in name there pardner. ole gene can sniff out an imposter like a bloodhound. its no skin off my back though. keep your thoughts positive. you can call me gene.
  11. went for a drive today. pretty slim pickings out there. not much open. was hoping to pick up some clothes and maybe grab a bite to eat but told alicia to just keep on driving. downtown was certainly not hopping yet and i imagine the weather did not help. hope everyone else had a productive day. about to sit down to some homemade pizza and a nice california vintage. you can call me gene.
  12. young feller i believe that would be the prince. 2014 film starring bruce willis jason patric and the great john cusack. you can call me gene
  13. they dont make em like midnight express anymore. boy did those turks railroad ole billy. dont mind the nonsensical questions just helps me get to know you a bit more. ah to be young and have those insecurities and self-doubt. dont know if id trade places though even though the sands in the hourglass are thinning. to each his own or to each he owes as ole buddy boy says. you can call me gene.
  14. sat out on the veranda had a nice homemade one from the neighbors up a piece. he wanted to talk nascar but i really cant get into that and didnt want to argue. was a tasty beverage though and alicia made him a pie so guess that was a fair trade. been trying to keep up with the college hoops transfers. they are a mile a minute though. hoping they have a season. jim bibby probably the best player to come through the local school. he played baseball in the show. had a kid named sylvester ritter on the football team. rest his soul. some of you may know him by his other name. kinston is the town that has some real good athletes go through there though. you can call me gene.
  15. mr ten or chi apologies if you are not greek. or roman for that matter tee hee. lots of similarities between the two although sarsaparilla is made from the bark of the sassafras. i do believe in the old days they used birch bark in a blend as well. we have a few old jamaican boys here that brew their own blend from the smilax ornata if you are scientifically inclined. can just say it is refreshing and some of the chicken farmers from honduras make a real strong tea from it as well around here. glad to meet you. you can call me gene.
  16. mr high apologies as that name is difficult for my old eyes to read. in order of preference i would go sioux city 1 jackson hole 2 and maine root 3. currently data collecting and studying the leagues but not wagering to be honest other than maybe pitching pennies on the veranda. glad you asked and much obliged. you can call me gene.
  17. sometimes when watching the game ill fill up a tall glass with ice and the stuff.. literally makes you sweat the bet. an old boy from arkansas turned me on to the stuff as a surefire hangover cure. you know us carolina boys like our moonshine and whiskey. just funnin and joshin while alicia is doing her knitting. you can call me gene.
  18. eugene morgan is my given name. but most of the folks including my kin just call me gene. there are other occupational titles juinors seniors et cetera that run through the family tree but most people just go by their calling by name. if i were to know you better i would likely call you house or call you picks instead of housepicks. of course i dont think it is a gigantic leap of faith to say that moniker is not your given name. as for now most folks of my walk of life and persuasion would refer to you as mister or mr. housepicks out of respect of not knowing you. its neither here nor there what you prefer to call me either way ask a respectful question and you will get a respectful response. hope that answers your question young man. you can call me gene
  19. and besides the few characters here give me a little bit of shall we say research for my line of work. dont quite have the gumption to interact with everyone yet but appreciate those that are interested. hopefully when the games start back up we can ramp up the cordial discussions. as for the silliness a john ruskin quote probably describes it best. you can call me gene
  20. mr joe bag on here a bit early as we had a nice sunday brunch. just alicia and i. she puts out quite a southern spread as to how i found the place well with lots of downtime these days i simply google searched gambling forums. even for an old fuddy duddy like myself that is simple enough. saved the first ten sites and checked them out. three or four of them were gambling addiction sites of which i have no interest in. a couple of the others were dead or not up to date so to speak. signed up for this one and a couple others and decided to dip my toe in to the water here. despite the occasional odd duck and a few john singer types this place seems to be welcoming. thanks for asking. im much obliged. you can call me gene.
  21. the 95 south runs right through florence from fayetteville and we do enjoy the drive. charleston and savannah are two beautiful cities and it is a pleasure to visit quite often. the culinary scene is fantastic and the antebellum charm cannot be beat. as far as florence had a nephew that went to francis marion but really never saw it as more of a rest stop on the way to those aforementioned cities. also had another nephew graduate from the citadel. summa cum laude. very proud. actually played basketball there. but that is a story for another time. we can continue this discourse tomorrow. alicia is getting restless and even though i am no spring chicken as yourself. we all know it is best not to keep the ladies waiting as they tend to get a bit shall we say surly. keep firing those queries young whippersnapper. it is a pleasure to make your acquaintance. you can call me gene.
  22. certainly seems an odd duck or two around here but i guess that is just part of the character. or part of the furnishings as alicia might say. intentions were not literal as that is more of a euphemism than anything. the children used to shout doctor eugene. i would say yes i am. always got a little guffaw out of the whippersnappers. you can still call me gene.
  23. currently sitting in my recliner. not as much pull or push these days. eugene the surname rather than the town. phil knight has done wondrous things with that athletic program. my favorite oregon student athlete of all-time was the late great steve prefontaine if that gives you any idea of my time on this earth. feel free to call me gene.
  24. i am sorry to hear about the passing of your friend. i once met the great denny crum at a restaurant in downtown louisville. imagine your friend was a fan. myself and alicia will have him in our thoughts and prayers. you can call me gene.
  25. mr tjd to answer your queries. the russell crowe film was excellent. that is a few years back. cant think of any others. yes of course. i look in the mirror every day after my morning calisthenics. some days i like what i see more than other days. in my younger years i guess of course you could say i was a bit of a gym rat but for you younger folks you probably think that was back in the peach bucket days. i did once visit hickory high in indiana and have been to all of the hallowed gymnasiums on tobacco road. hope that helps. you can call me gene.
