Fantasy football players, a WR Sleeper to consider on draft night

Who he is:

Saints signed Rutgers WR Brandon Coleman.

Coleman (6-foot-6, 225) tied Rutgers' school record for career touchdown receptions (20) before declaring for the draft as a redshirt junior. He averaged 19.2 yards per catch on 94 grabs. Despite vertical-receiver college stats and a massive catch radius (34-inch arms), Coleman is a buildup-speed player whose game will have to change. He needs to learn how to use his body to shield defenders, because he won't be running by NFL defensive backs. Alshon Jeffery successfully made similar changes in Chicago. Ultimately, Coleman is a project whose outlook could range anywhere from Plaxico Burress to Ramses Barden.

Why he matters:

Saints coach Sean Payton singled out second-year WR Brandon Coleman as the player who's impressed him most in training camp.

It's to the point where Coleman is worth owning in pretty much every league. He has big-league size (6'6/225), adequate speed (4.56), and a place in three-receiver sets in a Drew Brees-quarterbacked offense that has lost well over 300 passing-game targets from 2014. With Jimmy Graham gone to Seattle, Coleman's target competition consists of diminutive Brandin Cooks, declining 32-year-old Marques Colston, 34-year-old Ben Watson, and injured C.J. Spiller.

not a fan of rookie receivers in FF although last year many had great seasons...a couple of deep sleepers this year could be Eddie Royal and Stevie Johnson...both will see a lot of balls this year and would be nice late value in PPR leagues.  I also expect Jordan Mathews to have a big season but he is not a sleeper.

I watched Coleman a lot at Rutgers. not sure he can separate off line but once he gets going with those long strides he moves.

not nearly the sleeper as Coleman but a guy to keep eye on is Breshard Perriman. knee issue right now but supposedly not serious. had some 'hands' issues last year maybe mental. Josh Gordon comparisons. good situation in Balt with door open.

Everyone moved Royal up once White got injured.

Like Bennent more

And Olaen due to obvious injuries

yep the white injury coupled with Cutler/Royal having success in the past...Chicago will also likely not be very good so a lot of passing late in games when they are behind.

Any thoughts on Maclin for KC guys?  We all know no KC WR had a td last year..Maclin is going somewhere around round 5-7 in most mocks.

read an article recently about Perriman saying he was having some growing pains..Marlon Brown might be the better option on Balt for a deep sleeper.

Try

Nick Toon

The New Orleans Times-Picayune believes Brandon Coleman is locked in as the Saints' No. 3 receiver.

Per reporter Larry Holder, Coleman has been a mainstay with Marques Colston and Brandin Cooks in three-receiver sets, and there's "no reason to believe" that will change. Coleman spent surprisingly little time with the first-team offense in last weekend's preseason opener, but coach Sean Payton has promised that will change against the Patriots on Saturday.

Having left Nick Toon in the dust, Coleman is an interesting WR5 flier in re-draft leagues. Aug 18 - 3:23 PM

Brandon Coleman, Brandin Cooks, and Marques Colston worked as the Saints' first-team three-receiver package at Saturday's practice.

It's notable that Coleman ran with the ones after he was relegated to special teams in New Orleans' preseason opener. It's also notable in that Coleman may have passed Nick Toon, something beat writers have been alluding to possibly happening. Coleman is in prime position to become a fantasy sleeper. Colston is running out of gas and Cooks -- while talented -- is unproven. Aug 15 - 7:17 PM

Nothing but great things from him in all camp reports for far this preseason and each time coach Payton talks about him you can tell he is more impressed. Definitely one to watch
