If so what do you sell?

I've heard if you want to get rich you need to sell big ticket items....

what are some of the most profitable things to sell?

Real Estate?

Stocks?

Medical Equipment?

Cars?

Forex Trading?

looking for ideas i have been selling advertising space and looking to sell something else. Something with a higher ceiling.

I used to own a floor covering store.  My remnants (mill ends) were marked up about 300%.  Area rugs were marked up 400%.  Regular order sales only had 40% markup as the competition was fierce.  I found myself pushing mostly my own stock.  At any given time I had about 50 full rolls of carpet (12 feet x 100 feet) in stock as well as 10-12 rolls of vinyl flooring.

The only retail business with a higher markup than flooring is furniture.

i was in the furniture business and normal markup was 100%

largest furniture store in wisconsin (american) went bankrupt last year... with 300% markups that would've never happened!

Maybe I am wrong, but the furniture store next to me said they bought stuff for $289 and sold it for $1200.

wow that's a nice markup... i'm sure in some circles there are margins like that, probably more artsy stuff?

This guy was selling cheap stuff disguised as good stuff.  In Western Maryland (Hicktown USA) they don't know any better.  All I know was I had to find them carpet to match their new furniture.

This article and many others list the average markup of retail furniture to be 200-400%.

let's look at the financial statements

hooker furniture (great name)

Total Revenue 91,923 84,309 91,490 78,222

herman miller

(In millions, except key ratios and per share data) 2015 2014 2013 2012 2011 Operating Results Net sales $ 2,142.2 $ 1,882.0 $ 1,774.9 $ 1,724.1 $ 1,649.2 Gross margin 791.4 631.0 605.2 590.6 538.1

less than 100% markup for the big boys... maybe there are people quadrupling the price of their merchandise, but i wouldn't say that's the average... if that was the case, me and other furniture stores around here would still be operating

even with the high markups furniture stores operate at 1.5-2% profit margins (among the highest) from the few articles I read.  High markups, yet high costs eat into the profits

yeah no doubt

tough way to make an easy living... like restaurants, people think they are making a lot of money but in most cases the owners would be better off working for minimum wage at mcdonald's

i do know the owners of colder's furniture stores here in milwaukee, they do pretty well but i have no idea how.  places are like a ghost town when i go in

I couldn't even imagine doing this for a living. Although the first few months or even a year might be exciting, you'd be living week to week without hitting a windfall and who the hell wants to put in 50 hours of research only to come out behind in any given week? Fuck that.

exactly.

nothing worse than putting a lot of effort in and not getting the results you want.

can't imagine gambling as a full time job. seems like a great way to ruin a fun hobby.

after playing 10 million hands of blackjack online whoring casino bonuses, I thought I would never again enjoy playing at the tables. After a 10 year absence, I like it again.
