milwaukee mike
my health insurance just went up another 30%, after being raised 3 times last year (they can raise it once/year + when each person hits a new age range) it used to be, you saved a million bucks and you could live off of the interest. now the interest on a million won't even cover health insurance. another couple years of increases like this and the after tax/insurance dollars of making 40k will be the same as making 80k (because of subsidies)... people like me just aren't going to make money if it all gets taken for taxes/insurance
Texastoughguy
Middle class getting hammered as usual. Sadly you are almost better off being poor than on the lower end of the so called middle class.
Deal With It
Insurance for my wife & I more than doubled in 2014 from 2013 rates, with higher deductibles.:shoot Open enrollment is coming up. I don't want to even look at the 2015 rates. Just thinking about it makes me sick...kind of counter productive :smiley-laughing001:

milwaukee mike
I thought you were a millionaire Mike? My health insurance is free' date=' can't complain[/quote'] money drifts away quickly if you pay 20k/year for health/dental costs, and 10 years from now what if that number is 50k/year? i have 24 years before turning 65, i plan on retiring soon and i could easily be out over $1 million for medical costs over those 24 years... po69
If you really are paying 20k a year for healthcare for your family, then you should just not have it at all. I mean it would be pretty unusual at your age to even spend 5k for all medical bills during a calendar year.

It happens.
rito
almost everyone wants it, just like almost everyone wants an end to the forever wars and wasting all our money blowing up sand the people almost never get what is good for the people People in the USA don't want it, mostly because of propoganda spread by the insurance business. They think the gov't could never run a health care system -- ignoring the fact that they do run a giant healthcare system, Medicare, which works just fine for everyone over 65. Of course nearly half the country doesn't know that Medicare is a gov't program (seen the protests to "keep gov't hands off medicare"). I suppose they think it comes from the Medicare fairy. Inkwell77
I know the insurance situation is ridiculous but something just as ridiculous is the EBT program. How the fuck anyone can defend the EBT program is beyond me. Just a horrible horrible policy and not helping society. I know people have mentioned this in the past, but, in general, it used to be shameful to use foodstamps.... Now it is the norm.

All I hear about is it and how we'd save so much money without when the actual amount spent on it yearly is less than the US miliitary spent on gasoline while I wrote this sentence. I know there is a lot of waste and the fact that you can buy coca-cola and crap food with them is the worst (but guess who lobbied to make this possible -- big business of course), but they do actually end up feeding children that would otherwise go hungry. Hedge
Well my wife gets insurance paid for from her school district' date=' but me and our kids do not have health insurance.[/quote'] Typically these type of employer plans have favorable rates to add family members. Why wouldn't you want to take advantage of it? Going w/o health insurance is -EV.
