Temple -17 over Tulsa:

After surpassing their win total from last season following a 36-10 win over Connecticut 2 weeks ago, the Temple Owls (3-1) host the Tulsa Golden Hurricane (1-4) on homecoming weekend at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia. The Owls used a 23 point 3rd quarter to put the Huskies away after a slow start. PJ Walker (82/126 805 7 TD 3 INT) completed 20/29 for 231 yards and a TD while the defense mustered up 2 TD's and a safety. Tavon Young intercepted Chandler Whitmer (12/23 163 1 TD 1 INT) and took it back 93 yards to paydirt, Praise Martin Oguike returned a fumble 11 yards to the house, and Temple recorded a team safety. Tulsa dropped their 4th straight falling to Colorado St 42-17 last week. Dane Evans (117/214 1367 9 TD 9 INT) struggled throughout completing just 16/29 for 222 yards and 2 INTs. The Golden Hurricane were just 7 for 20 on 3rd down conversions and gave up 534 yards of total offense to the Rams including 300 through the air.

Temple registered just 42 total rushing yards against UConn and are just 96th in the country on the ground overall. They've recorded just 5 rushing TD's thus far, and Jamie Gilmore (29-144 5.0 1 TD) leads the team. The Owls' offense has been averaging 342.5 yards and 39 points per game this season. Jalen Fitzpatrick (19-288 4 TD) should have a big game against Tulsa's problem secondary The Golden Hurricane have yielded an average of 42 points and over 500 total yards per contest. Temple is the nation's leader in turnover margin at +2.5 per game, while Tulsa is the third worst in that category at minus-1.8 per game. As long as the Owls take care of the ball their methodical offense and stellar defense should keep Tulsa off balance and ripe once again for giving up big plays.

Like Temple, Tulsa has trouble running the ball. James Flanders (57-265 4.6) has not found the end zone as of yet and Zack Langer (49-223 4.6 2 TD) has as many rushing TD's as Evans. Temple's secondary could be tested as top targets Keevan Lucas (44-540 6 TD) and Keyarris Garrett (21-314) are their top playmakers in the passing game. The Golden Hurricane however rank just 126th in the country on defense not giving up any less than 31 points in their 5 games so far this season. Being that Evans is prone to making mistakes especially with ball handling and inability to be on the same page with his receivers as evident of his 9 INTs, Temple could benefit with short fields and drives eventually prone to easy scores.

Temple's defensive unit has forced 11 turnovers, is allowing just 12 points per game and yields just under 300 yards per contest so far this season. The solid unit is led by junior linebacker Tyler Matakevich's 26 total tackles, one sack and nine tackles for a loss. Young's three picks leads the squad, while redshirt sophomore Avery Ellis has a team- best two sacks. The Walker to Fitzpatrick combination should be essentially difficult for Tulsa to contain, plus Temple's tailbacks may endure some additional success on the ground milking the clock if they can move the football. It might be a challenging task for Temple to keep Tulsa's offense off the field, but potentially easier than expected if the Golden Hurricane are prone to losing the turnover battle. Owls should get the win and easy cover here in a higher than expected scoring game. Let's get back on the winning stride this afternoon and put an unpredictably difficult week 6 behind us. Best of luck however you play!
