The Cardinals have one of the best defensive backfields in the league. Their defensive line is fierce. But the outside linebacker position is a weakness. They can't expect John Abraham to be as productive this season, and Matt Shaughnessy would be better off as a reserve.

Linebacker Kevin Minter was last year's second-round pick. He has big shoes to fill stepping into the starting lineup for Karlos Dansby, who departed the Cardinals via free agency.

The left side of the offensive line goes from a huge position of weakness last season to a strength with the addition of Jared Veldheer and the healthy return of last year's top-10 pick, Jonathan Cooper.

Top to bottom, this is an extremely talented starting lineup.

Vegas released NFL season win totals for Arizona at 7.5 and this year some of the tougher games on the slate start early including the opener against San Diego and Phillip Rivers which will be a big test for the revamped secondary.

Losing Daryl Washington to suspension was a big blow to the defense. The very next game all the way over on the east coast at N.Y. Giants before traveling all the way back to the east coast and playing San Francisco. The bye week is early but they might need it due to the all the traveling early.

Right after the bye things get even tougher as they travel to Denver.Games against Philly,Dallas and Detroit will be big test for them defensively.

The last four out of six games are on the road against Seattle,Atlanta,Kansas City,St. Louis and San Francisco. This team has a brutal schedule but anything is possible after finishing last year at 10-6.......

The Seahawks didn't have a draft pick until No. 45, and they had only two picks in the top 105. Translation: They probably won't get a lot of help from this rookie class.

The second-round picks, wide receiver Paul Richardson and tackle Justin Britt, have the best chance for an immediate impact. Richardson could ultimately supplant Doug Baldwin in the lineup. Sidney Rice's spot in the lineup is also hardly guaranteed; Richardson will be a bigger part of the team's future.

K.J. Wright is one of the most underrated players in the league. He should step right back into every-down status. The Seahawks are one of the rare teams that don't list a "nickel cornerback" as a starter, and it's because their linebackers are so good in coverage. Bruce Irvin and Malcolm Smith also should continue to split time in their linebacker rotation.

Pete Carroll told Around The League at the NFL Spring Meeting that Tony McDaniel would be a direct replacement for Red Bryant in the starting lineup. Cliff Avril will take many of Chris Clemons' snaps.

The Seahawks think years ahead with their moves. Guys like Christine Michael and Robert Turbin will be in place when Marshawn Lynch moves on. No team does a better job of developing previous unknowns to be ready when their name is called. Byron Maxwell is a great example of this "draft and develop" system working.Vegas released NFL season win totals for Seattle at 11.They get an early bye after Facing Green Bay,San Diego and Denver a very tough early test.......

Dec. 28 Arizona, 4:25 p.m.

Two of San Francisco's premier players, Aldon Smith and NaVorro Bowman, are expected to miss a big chunk of the season for very different reasons. Third-round pick Chris Borland and veteran Michael Wilhoite are the top candidates to take Bowman's spot in the lineup until the All-Pro is back from his knee injury. We'll give Wilhoite the slight edge because the 49ers bring rookies along slowly.

Smith, meanwhile, is expected to be suspended. Corey Lemonier, who flashed in his starts last year, is a promising replacement.

Second-round pick Carlos Hyde is not a lock to be Frank Gore's backup right away. Kendall Hunter figures to still have a role in the offense as a change-of-pace back.

Jimmie Ward is listed as a starter despite clearly being third on the depth chart at safety. Because he's not just a safety. The team's surprising first-round pick should become the starting nickel cornerback covering slot receivers. (He should be an upgrade over the current backup corners.) Ward is a valuable hybrid player who has a similar playing style to free-agent pickup Antoine Bethea.

We gave Chris Culliver the nod as the team's starting cornerback despite potential league discipline. Culliver is coming off a torn ACL, but the 49ers have expressed confidence he's their guy. Free-agent pickup Chris Cook and fourth-round pick Dontae Johnson will give Culliver competition. Johnson is another hybrid player who can play cornerback and safety, but he'll be a cornerback initially.

San Francisco's top three wideouts look set. After that, it will be a battle royale between guys like Quinton Patton, fourth-round pick Bruce Ellington, Brandon Lloyd and Jon Baldwin. The 49ers don't lack for receiving options.

The 49ers drafted 12 players this year, including seven in Rounds 3 through 5. That means there will be fierce competition for roster spots. Third-round pick Marcus Martin will face incumbent Daniel Kilgore at center.Vegas released NFL season win totals for San Francisco at 10.5. Chicago,Philly,Kansas City,Denver,Dallas,Arizona will be a rough slate to start the season......

Wide receiver typifies what's wrong with the Rams' offense. They have plenty of options, but need their young talent to step up. We gave the starting jobs to incumbents Chris Givens and Austin Pettis, but Brian Quick and free-agent pickup Kenny Britt have a chance to start as well.

It's rare to see the No. 13 overall pick in the draft sit for long, but don't assume that Aaron Donald will pass solid veteran Kendall Langford on the depth chart right away. The Rams' starting defensive line could be the best in the entire league.

Second-round pick Lamarcus Joyner is a Jeff Fisher favorite. This is a roster in desperate need of cornerback help, and there will be pressure on the Florida State product to produce right away.

No. 2 overall pick Greg Robinson will start his career at left guard. He probably won't stay there past 2014, but his addition there could bolster Zac Stacy's rushing numbers.

Then again, Stacy's total carries might go down following the addition of third-round pick Tre Mason. The Rams have said publicly they want Stacy to be the workhorse, but Mason could wind up in a timeshare if he's as explosive as expected.

The secondary is a problem, but it's fair to say that expectations have been raised in St. Louis. General manager Les Snead and coach Jeff Fisher have done a terrific job building up this roster and improving toughness, especially on defense. If Sam Bradford is as good as the Rams believe he is, this is a starting lineup that should win more than seven games.Vegas released NFL season win totals for St. Louis at 7.5. Schedule after the bye is brutal and one stretch where four out of five games are on the road.Won't be easy having San Francisco,Seattle,Denver,Kansas City,San Diego,Arizona and Philly on the slate.

This is the toughest division in the NFL bar none. Every team in this division could say they have a good shot at the postseason this year. St. Louis nabbed Gregg Williams as their defensive coordinator and he usually fields top ten caliber defenses. St. Louis just drafted Aaron Donald and have one of the best front sevens in the league. If the offense can improve the Rams could be good this year especially behind rookie RB Tre Mason and one of my favorites RB Zac Stacy who is really good moving the chains. Also Arizona should've went the postseason last year at 10-6 with one of the best defenses and a good offense as well with RB Andre Ellington who is emerging as one of my favorite RB's and is a really good weapon for Arizona. The Cards have just had bad luck all around on defense losing CB Dansby in free agency and losing ILB Daryl Washington to suspension as well. Just as news came along that FS Tyrann Mathieu is getting better the word now is DE Darnell Dockett tore his ACL. I still think that Arizona has a chance to make noise BUT if they had all their weapons and players fully healthy i would've picked Arizona to win this division in 2014. Seattle in my opinion will take a slight step back due to the big emphasis now on contact with defenses but also they have lost some key players and that will hurt some. Also teams will be gunning for the champions as well not to mention that Seattle has one hell of a schedule with Green Bay,San Diego and Denver in the first three weeks gonna be tough. They also play Kansas City,Carolina,Philly plus San Fran twice,Arizona twice,St. Louis twice. Not gonna be easy at all for Seattle. Finally i must say i think if Kaepernick stays healthy all year and the defense plays top five like last year i think the Niners win the division. They just drafted Carlos Hyde so Gore and Hyde hell of a one two punch pounding the rock. The Niners are deep at WR getting Stevie Johnson from the Bills plus having Bolden and Crabtree its looking good. The only bad thing i see if Kaepernick gets hurt because backup Blaine Gabbert is horrible in my opinion. Attention Harbaugh you better look for a better insurance policy at backup QB.
