Dingo
Being capable of doing something and having the desire/time to waste to do it are two completely separate items.Lots of rocket science in this thread. But you stated you attempted to unclog the toilet yourselfSo therefore you had the time and desire to do it but we’re incapable of doing. housepicks
Being capable of doing something and having the desire/time to waste to do it are two completely separate items. Lots of rocket science in this thread. Seems pointless to make a thread asking questions about a non rocket science thing like a toilet. I’d figure you’d troubleshoot quickly and since you don’t have the time you’d call up a dumb lug and tell him exactly what needed to be done. MonkeyF0cker
But you stated you attempted to unclog the toilet yourselfSo therefore you had the time and desire to do it but we’re incapable of doing.Incorrect. I had already put too much of my time into it myself and didn't want to purchase the equipment to pull the toilet and suck the water out. This was all explained in the thread, rocket scientist. Sorry. Truth hurts I guess.

The X
It's not rocket science but I was asking a question since I know nothing about homes that old. I wouldn't want any asbestos in my home.Asbestos is harmless unless it's disturbed.
IAG
So. Found what appeared to be a legit qualified guy to do asbestos testing for $175. I called him a week ago and he was to call me back in two days to schedule, and test at the end of the week. I never heard back. Haven’t had time to think about it until just now. Looked up his website and this time saw a little bio. Looked qualified so I was willing to overlook the no return call. His last name was the same as someone I went to school with , so I googled to see if they were related. First thing that comes up is a big SEX OFFENDER page showing his mugshot and that he was convicted of possession/distribution/manufacturing of child pornography in 2012. I’m not sure which or if it’s all. Great. I was relaying this to a friend and asking if it was possible to overlook that, and she pointed out he probably didn’t call me back because I live two short blocks from an elementary school. He probably can’t work that close to a school. Do you think that’s what is going on? It was such a pain to find someone that I thought was qualified and reasonably priced. Even If I can get over the other thing, I still would have to make a potential really awkward phone call. FML.
TobyTyler
IAG sometimes that sweet vestal high school nector is too much for us to handle. Personally I drive by couple different bus stops each morning to get it out of my system.

IAG
So in the ongoing process of replacing flooring in basement, I needed to ditch a mattress which was sitting upright near the window. There was a box spring also and Kat would often sit there gazing out the window. It was her is safe place, In any case , I finally decided I had to get it out of here, so I called some hauling guy who came over. As were going down the stairs I flippantly say” I hope you’re not allergic to cats. “. He says “I am.” I say “ are you kidding? He said “yeah I could die.” I totally thought he was joking so I said “shut up you are not” and continue on. Then as I am helping him with the mattress, fur from the cat goes flying everywhere because she has rested there for months. I said I hope you were kidding about the cat thing, he said “I wasn’t.Really I can die.” I freak out and say something to the effect of “well you shouldn’t be here then ...go!” and he says “it’s OK. I have a puffer.” When I thought he was kidding, I also made a joke about the asbestos tiles. Lol. Facepalm.

IAG
Was fishing for tip.I thought about that too, but I think he really looked a bit distressed once I realized he wasn’t kidding. He was dirt cheap so I gave him a decent tip in case he needed allergy medicine. Ha.
housepicks
If it’s really life or death he should have a respirator in the truck for whenever he needs it.

mikeman
If he was really allergic to cats he would have asked about that before he came over, he didn't, he wasn't, certainly not enough to possibly die.

He probably would not have mentioned it unless I asked. I don’t think he was being overly dramatic, it was just kind of funny how it played out. Mostly because I did didn’t take him seriously and we were walking around on the cracked asbestos tiles.

A cheap 3M dust mask would provide him complete protection from those dastardly cat hairs. Did he haul it away for free?

Actually the rumba takes care of most of the cat hair, except for that that was on the mattress in the corner that I never look at. I’m beginning to think this is one of those you had to be there type things.

IAG
So I couldn’t find anybody in the area that looks like they did residential testing that had near the qualifications of the child porn guy so I called him again and he was here in half an hour. Really nice guy and wanted to knock off over $100 since he forgot about me. He said probably a 50/50 chance of asbestos but said very little chance of harm from exposure due to being non friable or friable or something, In any case, if it does come out positive, he said I would be able to remove it myself or he can give me a quote. I will know Monday. And because these things can’t go without a cat issue, Milo took a poo on the floor right in front of us. That’s what I get for putting his litter box away when I had company. Thought he would use the robot. Guess not.
