Carolina Panthers vs Denver Broncos

Ok, it’s Thursday, it’s game day, it’s time to get SERIOUS. The NFL begins the season and for the first time in its history the first game is the same two teams that played in the previous Super Bowl. It’s the Carolina Panthers at Sports Authority Field in Denver, Colorado to face the World Champion Denver Broncos.

With that said, what is different from last season?

The Broncos lost quarterback Peyton Manning to retirement and making cupcakes. It will be the team led by Trevor Siemian behind center as the starting quarterback.

This can be good or bad.

Since 2003, Rookie quarterbacks are 11-8 in season openers. (Technically, Siemian was on the field for one play last year and it was a kneel down facing the Steelers). Another thing I see as a difference maker is Demaryius Thomas had one catch in last years Super Bowl as he was defended by Pro Bowler Josh Norman, who signed a five-year, $75 million deal with Washington in the offseason. This year it will be rookie cornerbacks trying to defend him.

The Panthers will have the services of wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin in the opener as he missed the Super Bowl due to a torn ACL. He is a big 6’5” football grabber that is hard to contain at times. Running back CJ Anderson would like to have a complete game from start to finish as he was a slow starter in the Super Bowl.

Who Wins?

I haven’t even mention the name Cam Newton. The MVP of the league. He guides the Carolina Panthers to victory and covers -3 in this game.

One more thing- Bet the Under 41 points.

Pick: Carolina -3 and Under 41

My Week 1 Sunday afternoon card in the NFL. Good luck!

Packers -4: Like the Packers to steam roll the Jags. Jordy has a nice return.

Buffalo +3: Balt 1-9 in last 10 home games.

Atlanta/TB Under 48: Like a 24-21 game in this one.

Saints -1: Not a believer in Oakland. Saints solid at home.

Chiefs/Chargers Under 45: Recent games between the two have all been under. No Charles. Chiefs D is solid. Like it.

Giants Pickem: Dallas with rookie QB and rookie RB? Dez gets frustrated. I'll take Manning and the experience over this youth in first game.
