Important information regarding the upcoming NBA season
DraftKings

Thu 10/13, 12:10 PMYou

Hello ,

We are excited to announce two changes to our NBA product for this upcoming season:

1. Some players will now be eligible for up to two positions. For example, Kevin Love would be eligible as a Power Forward and a Center (PF/C). We expect this to improve the drafting experience, creating more flexibility for lineup construction.

2. All lineup selections will lock at the start of the contest (i.e. you will no longer be able to swap players after contest lock). This change will allow our customers to enjoy the games and follow their teams rather than monitoring for late breaking news leading up to tip-off of each game.

These changes will go into effect starting with NBA contests on Tuesday, October 18th and will apply to all NBA contests for the remainder of the season. Note that these changes apply to NBA only.

Please reach out to us at [email protected] if you have any questions.

Thank you,

The DraftKings Team

This would be like arguing that sportsbooks should lock and require all plays to be put in 5 minutes before the first game starting because people can't follow injury news in real time so they have an unfair advantage.  :laugh

They do this to an extent, it would be like a 'parlay' in the sports world.  Most books require all teams in the parlay before making the wager, but a few offer open parlays.

I agree with FW here though, draftkings did this because its in their best interest.  Average Joe (90% of draftkings users) that enters a lineup and then goes to the bar with his buddies doesnt like all of the "pros" who sit there waiting for a scratch and 1 up them.  Nothing worse than having your top guy that cost 10k in the late game and gets scratched but you werent around to swap him out.

The pros are going to play no matter what the rule is, but the average joe will get sick of having his players not play while others switch them out, and just quit playing all together.

I get being upset about it timely and it does hurt those that take it very seriously, but I completely understand the view of DK. This helps their rec users which is the larger market. The +ev guys will still play for the most part as they still will (or at least feel like they will) have an edge vs the average joe. So money is still out there to be made for them this just helps even the field a bit for the majority that do not want to dedicate their nights to following the info and making all the smart swaps that come with the info. Most im sure just want to set their lineup once, watch and enjoy

So i completely get you being upset since you take it seriously and try to make good money each year with it but you gotta understand the larger scope and know there IS a reason they have made this choice. They were clearly losing too much business from people upset about it

And yes im sure the fantasy sites will have people upset like you, but those are pretty much going to be the ones that take it very seriously so of course most or all of them will be upset. The average joes arent going to fantasy news sites. I have friends that play these dfs sites they probably wouldnt even know fantasy forums etc exist. They go in and pick their fav big name players and dont sign in till games have started to see their opponents guys. And yes they are more likely $25-50 guys and not playing for hundreds but the volume of those type of guys adds up

Incorrect, IMO.

Their biggest market is far from the recreational user. Their biggest market are the guys playing a lot of lineups daily.

If I don't make a profit this year I'll never play daily again, and I put a lot more in action than a recreational user IMO.

Here's the problem, they aren't removing the late swap from any other sport; so it's not as if they feel it is bad for the game in general. They are removing it from the NBA only which is the most important sport to have it. That's my beef with this. I imagine I'll still do OK, but I'm going to be pretty pissed if this costs me in the long run.

I think they will remove it from baseball next season too....now that will suck for many as it will make most west coast games unplayable because lineups are usually not out yet. Not a big deal for me because I generally avoid west coast batters and only use their pitchers.

phew, I was worried about your lineups for a second there. Glad to hear it will work out for you.

Thank you timebo! I know these sites don't give a shit about Delaware so they won't fight for my right to party.

Illinois banned it for a couple months last year/this year; had to have my parents put my lineups in for me because they don't live in state. Imagine my 60 year old dad sitting at a computer at 5:45pm and 8:00pm every night swapping players for me on a system he didn't understand. It was hilarious. He found himself watching these games late when we were in contention for first in the big ones though; made him more of an NBA fan.

And no worries, I don't work Tuesday's so I'll be home all night playing so not an issue for me to throw them in. I'll be in a lot of stuff; I prefer the nights with fewer games; I tend to do better the fewer games there are.

Schroder will be interesting this year, he put up points in bunches when he was on, that guy could win a night for you.

The pacers are an interesting team, I love Turner but Tripp hates him.

I like Myles.... a lot. Rebounding machine. Guy is so young still too.

Schroeder is always productive with the minutes. Not sure he'll be undervalued though.

Loved him on Teague scratch nights last year though.

Not touching warriors early. Potential for blow outs paired with so many alphas is hard.

First night I'll have none. If i had to pick one it would be Durant assuming they want to get him comfortable.

True

I heard draymond is the most impacted with lesser stats.. But you know how that goes.... People say one thing and the exact opposite happens in dfs lol
