NBA Trade Deadline Thread

Maybe a lot of action today, maybe not.

Nerlens Noel traded to Dallas for Bogut, Justin Anderson and a 1st round pick (protected #1-#18)

That's about what NO gave up for Boogie lol.

Boston unwilling to move the top pick they are holding for Jimmy Butler or Paul George - just idiotic. This is a PG heavy draft, and the top pick will probably be a PG; a position Boston doesn't need. The odds of that guy becoming as good as George and Butler is not guaranteed and George/Butler fit the team perfectly given their needs. Ainge overplaying his hand.

An agent with connections to the potential deal between the Bulls and Boston informed Bulpett that Ainge’s unwillingness to deal the pick scuttled preliminary discussions. The Pacers would likely want that same pick as part of any deal involving George, Bulpett speculates.

Unless a blockbuster deal is worked out that would give them a serious chance of supplanting the Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference, the Celtics have no real incentive to move their most prized assets, the thinking goes in the Boston front office.

I think Butler would make them serious contenders to supplant the Cavs in the East.

Suns made a couple trades. Maybe they'll actually be able to pick up some talent with those draft picks.

Tucker lucky he's going to the Raptors. Good trade for them.

Those will be 2 late round 2nd rounders.  Basically lottery tickets.  Better than nothing though.  Tucker is gonna be unrestricted anyway.

Its amazing they couldn't even give Brandon Knight away.  They would have given him away for a bag of Cheetos, but they had no takers.

And to imagine what they gave up to get him.  Stupid.   :gun

When moving a guy in the nba, due to salary restrictions and the likes and the fact that shopping a guy already limits his value, you rarely get what a player is worth. Mainly because roster spots are so much more valuable because they are so limited and because all contracts are guaranteed so if a trade is uneven (in regards to assets moved) you're forced to pay the guy you cut plus the acquisition and both cost you a cap hit; therefore the player has to be worth both.

Yeah.  I get that.  Plus his contract does not fit his production.  Of course a lot of that has to do with his minutes coming off the bench rather than starting.

It would be nice if the guy would embrace a 6th man type of role, but he hasn't.  He's clearly not happy coming off the bench.

He had a career year last year and was then relegated to the bench for a player producing at a very similar efficiency rate this year. I imagine that bothers him but he should do his job.

Hard to move a disgruntled guy that has shown he has no interest in the place he's at. Most teams just figure he'll be practically free at some point.

Melo would have went to any winning team in a heart beat.

doubt it

Melo loves NY even if he cant stand Phil jackson. jackson probably gone soon anyways.

Think theres very few teams Melo would want to go to. Obv Cavs and Clippers were the two teams hed have accepted a deal to that were reported. Obv youd guess hed take a deal to GS/SA type teams but theyd have no interest or ways of making it work

I think more guys than fans realize are happy with their spots and dont have some burning desire to move to a winning team. Cole Hamels was perfectly happy staying in Philadelphia when he was there and in fact multiple times said that was his desired result, even though they were the worst team in the league with no hope in immediate sight. He in fact reportedly turn down deals to multiple winning teams that werent on his approved list cause he was happy in PHILA and would only accept a deal to certain cities
