Do people play bridge anymore?

Then again, my parents were both older and didn't drink, so Friday nights with bridge and pie with friends made sense. Pretty tame, but I have good memories of going to bed and falling asleep to the sound of the conversation and laughing coming from the living room while they played cards.

I used to tag along with old guys to this little gambling club where men played bourre and pitch (w/dominoes)  , would shag beers for guys gambling etc.

Women would get together at the bingo hall down block a couple nights a week while guys blew their cash at club and play bridge.  would sit in now and again when someone went to store in between running nachos and bbq burgers to other card games.  Can't say I cared for it all that much and haven't played in years.

This thread bought to you by Ensure and AARP :laugh

Along that line, I've visited my share of nursing homes....they are always singing...always hymns or patriotic songs, or generational songs. I always wonder what they will be singing by the time I get to the warehouse. Is there going to be a group of 80-90 year olds sitting around singing hip-hop or Baby Hit me one more time?" These are the things that keep me up at night.

Actually my step dad runs one of those places and unfortunately it's a bunch of old people sitting on towels( because of the accidents) sleeping and watching tv in the common area

Wow. I've been to a number of facilities between visiting and volunteering, and yet to see anyone sitting on towels. Sitting in wheelchairs and falling to sleep in random places seems to be common though.....most f'ing depressing places on earth.

Geezus where do you live Green Grove pal?

Live in a strange complex. It's one of the bigger ones in the area around w 900 plus units. Lots of older people (id say 65% of the places are owned by 55+ year olds and Russians for some reason. Really not exactly sure why that is.

They have tons of events that cater to the older folks, too. Like bingo once a week, pot luck parties for basically every holiday and big event

In fact in one of the recent HOA meetings, someone actually said there needs to be more events focused on the family and younger people. One of the old bags on the board proposes a 50 and younger dinner. Like that's young. JfC

The old idiots on the board also allowed some brock type scammer to commit massive fraud and steal a bunch of money from the HOA coffers.
