Sol Aristatel
Being there. Being involved. Earning their respect. 3 biggest Spend quality time. Listen. Be a parent, not a friend. Tell them you love them. Show them you love them. Model integrity. Teach them the Golden Rule.

Guest pocketrockets
Earning respect is in IMO the biggest and goes along with being involved... My parents were never involved in a good way, and my dad tried to get respect by bruising me, beating me and grounding me. I was beat up badly a couple of times. I love my father, but I dont respect him. And thus, look how I turned out. Dad+son relationship is so important, when absent said kid is more propense to a lot of shit the world has to offer, cause they need to look for that reassurance elsewhere. Sol Aristatel
Always pair discipline with an explanation. Explain why the actions were wrong and why discipline is necessary. "Because I said so" is a lame, lazy, easy way out for parents.
Guest pocketrockets
"Because I said so" was and is to this day, my dad's fave line when arguing.
