some good matches so far. Sharapova and Nadal both survived very legit scares last night. Thought Sharapova was done for sure when she was down 4-1 with the way Panova was serving and pressuring every serve of Sharapova. Panova got VERY tight at the end though and couldnt get in a first serve.

Murray looking really good so far but Matosevic also played like absolute crap last night. Looking forward to a possible Andy/Dimitrov R16 matchup. Dimitrov will have to hold serve better to beat the big boys in this tourney

Wouldnt be shocked either if Venus made a very deep run in this tourney. She is playing pretty incredible tennis right now. Definitely one of the top 10 contenders to win the womens side

Winner of Makarova/Pliskova tomorrow should make a deep run also, possibly to the SF or better. Both hard hitters playing great tennis and Halep is really the only other woman in their quarter that should worry either of them

unbelievable

Fed normally reliable in the early rounds of majors

but he's really falling off

even inexplicably dropped a set to bolleli

IDK that i would say he has really fallen off. Last year was his best season in three years. He was fantastic last year and that is coming from someone that thought Fed was done in 2012

And even this year he started it off by winning a very competitive tourney in Australia. He clobbered Dimitrov and won a tight match with Raonic. Not elite players but very good top 8-10 players that could move into the elite group within the next year or two

Bolelli match he played well. He lost the first set because Bolelli played out of his mind good. He could have beaten anybody that set, even Novak. He was destroying the ball and getting everything in. Wasn't sustainable play though and Fed cruised the next three sets

Tonight is a bit different, Feds level isnt super high. Lots of mistakes, serve hasnt been great, some poor judgement on shots

He is up a break right now in the third, lets see if he can start to control play

Ehh i dont think Fed would retire, think he still has a huge competitive drive. I can see him playing two or three more years honestly. Players are playing at high levels for longer than they used to.

Will be hard for Fed to win another major if Nadal and Murray both have healthy years and are back to their high level play. I think those guys at their best are better than Fed at his best right now, same with Novak obviously. But Fed can play with anybody still and i can see a draw opening up just right and him taking a major this year. Wimbledon is the one he wants and he has made that very clear

If he won Wimbledon and lost in the first week of every other major this year I think he'd call this year a huge success

I never thought Federer was "done", just that I said in 2013 (IIRC) that he wouldn't be winning any more majors. He just can't do it with the longer tournaments, the best of 5, and the level of competition

he's still plenty good enough to win normal tournaments

Federer struggling with his serve here

lots of faults

had a double in a critical spot

almost lost the match there but battled back and forced a tiebreak

I doubt he makes the semis even he wins tonight

He has the toughest quarter of the draw by far

Fed, Murray and Dimitrov all in the same quarter. Kyrgios also who is tough esp at this event
