The way I thought about regulated financial markets getting involved in bitcoin was first that it would allow a futures market, which has happened. The other is that they could potentially open up their own BTC exchange (if they haven't already). For the latter, what does that really change though? Are you safer investing in a regulated financial exchange than at Kraken or GDAX? Obviously I trust the owners of the regulated exchange more, but if they are actually holding people's BTC, they are just as likely to get hacked unless their security is that much better.

Just my thoughts, probably wrong on everything.

There are a lot of different things that regulations could do to change the face of legality and taxes in cryptos.

For instance, ICO's were already made illegal in China.  Regulation in other countries could/would make it increasingly difficult for some random guy in his underwear in his mother's basement from copying open source cryptocurrency code, creating a RandomCoin blockchain, making absurd promises, and hiring bloggers/Twitter users to pump the coin.

In terms of hacking, regulated financial markets aren't directly accessible like crypto exchanges are.  They aren't independent websites.  You either have to have a seat on the exchange or use a broker.  So, in that sense, they are much easier to secure.  And regulations could force a similar environment for crypto exchanges.

Alts driving the market again this morning

Yes they are!!! Tremendous.

Say Mike. The Grayscale/ Ameritrade/FINRA thing is still an issue! Ameritrade now tells me there was an ex dividend date of November 3. Finra says no ex dividend date, only a record date of November 6, and should get distribution. I have literally talked to 7 Ameritrade reps and no one can give me an answer. They were supposed to email me last week, and failed to do so. I don’t know if my best option is to go back to grayscale or FINRA. The transfer agent?? The FINRA rep suggested I could send them an email. I will do that, but otherwise out of options. Trying to speak directly with corporate action team at Ameritrade. Losing money trying to track down this $500 but I have so much time invested at this point. Something is seriously a problem here, and I bet not many investors even understand how the fork worked, or enough to know that they got shorted on their distribution. They were just happy with free money. My $500 could be a drop in the bucket.

WtFFFFF now rep tries to tell me the reason I didn’t get it Is because they hadn’t paid it out yet. Just lost my mind. They had paid out everything but the four shares. . Every time I call I get a different answer. I’m at the end of my rope. Chasing down this $500 is costing me thousands in trading opportunities. I just went all Sleepy in this poor rep.

Any suggestions? I would file some sort of complaint but I don’t even know who to direct it to at this point. I don’t know with whom lies the fault.

Always been happy with Ameritrade, but I will lose my mind if they made up the ex dividend date. On hold now for another 40 minutes waiting for manager.

Mikey...got the answer finally from Ameritrade manager. After four hours, 8 representatives, calls and emails to Finra that were unnecessary, I am told now that the reason I wasn’t paid for those shares is because they don’t settle for two or three days after you buy them. Hopefully that is correct information at least. You would think that everybody in the corporate action team would have been able to tell me that instead of resorting to making up an ex dividend date.

that's not right

ex-dividend date is for trading purposes, not settlement purposes

look at any stock with a big dividend, if it is ex-dividend on 1/3/2018 then if you buy it today you get the dividend, plain and simple... the stock will open up lower by roughly the amount of the dividend tomorrow.

It's good time to buy some now, you see like low cap stock taking huge gains during the tax return season, when people buy low cap stocks and etc with their tax refund for some big gain gamble... Since crypto's the thing, there should be some descent gain here for a few month.

TDAmeritrade has morons for reps because they are a shit company to work for.

Every dividend/distribution has a record date. You have to be a shareholder of record as of that date to receive the dividend. When you buy or sell a stock, there is a three business day settlement period. The ex-div is typically three days before the settlement date.

The key to receiving any dividend is to own the stock on the record date and you are not an owner until settlement is completed.

speaking of dividends, if anyone wants the easiest 7%/year they'll ever make, check out AHP-B (ahp-prB on some sites)

trading at 20 with a par of 25 and no chance of default, debt load is crazy low vs common equity

return will actually be quite a bit higher than 7%/year because at some point they will get bought out or cash it out for 25

Depends what kind of risk profile you're looking for.

BTC or ETH if you're not holding any of either.

ETH could possibly be listed on futures markets soon and proof of stake is on the horizon.

Monero is a solid (anonymous) coin but like most of the other alts, it's had a huge run of late and you'd be buying at the top.

I'm not a big fan of any of the other alts on BM at the moment.  Blackcoin, Monacoin, Neo, and SALT are some of the riskier coins they offer that have some potential.

If I were you, I'd get paid out in BTC from BM, move it to an exchange that offers a good number of different coins (Binance or Poloniex are good), and diversify a little bit.

Good shit, thanks Mike.

you're welcome... for some reason ahp-b usually doesn't show up on preferred stock screeners... if it showed up on those then it wouldn't be trading at 20, more like 22-23 which is still cheap

even stuff that yields less and isn't paying out their dividend like pcg-g trades at almost 25 for crying out loud

Well thats not what Ameritrade told me. Hmmmmm. Seems like it would depend on the record date.

The hard part with this is there really was no ex dividend date, there was only a record date of November 6, and I had to be the owner on that date. Even though I purchased the stock on the third, it doesn’t settle for two or three business days which put it past the record date.
I looked that part up, and that appears to be correct information.
