Fishhead: Ever seen a quarter royal this high?

Sounds boring as hell.

Agree quarter video poker in general is pretty boring but roughly $100 an hour EV with some sick variance makes it a little more interesting.  I was down close to a dime after about 3,000 hands after only getting two quads.

Rough strategy I came up with last night.  Get to do some fun shit like hold 3 to royal over a dealt straight.

RF;SF;4ok
222,333,444,AAA > FH > 3ok
RF4 > FLUSH
RF3 > STRAIGHT > 4SF
AA > TWO PAIR > KK, QQ, JJ
FL4
ST4 JT98-KQJT > low pair > 2345-789T
AHs, KHs, QJs
JT9s
ATs, KTs, QTs, JTs
SF3+0
AKQJ
AHHT, KQJ9
KQJ; ST4 2h1i
A
SF3-1
QJ, KH,
K,Q,J
SF-2
ST4 0h1i

with that horrible pay table you're just playing bingo chasing the royal

losing about $100/hr rather than making it, unless you hit the royal of course

The high royal more than makes up for the shitty pay table.  My quick analysis of it before playing showed you only needed about a 10k roll for a 10% risk of ruin.  I was actually surprised it was that low given it has like 35x more variance than say JoB but I guess the reduced royal cycle (like 22k hands versus 40k for traditional vp) and extreme high royal makes up for it.

Plus I knew I wouldn't be on it long.  I had been playing all day and found it about 11PM.  Put about an hour into looking at game on my computer and had it largely to myself overnight for the 4 hours I played it. There were 12 machines linked and, after sleeping a few hours, when I came back in the morning the bank was almost full and it got hit about 3 hours later at $6100.

9/6 are harder to find

local injun casino have only one bank of 20 and thats it

expect those to be gone soon , old machines

The internet and training software has largely killed things off and video poker is getting worse and worse every year.  There are still good machines out there but are odds if you go to your local casino you won't find anything.  Most of the people I know who still play video poker seriously do alot of traveling...

Got dealt a flush with 3 to a royal right before it hit.  I knew it was close (with the money that had been added to royal since I started playing) but just decided to stick with my strategy from the night before and held the flush rather than looking up the hand.  Where it was hit ($6100) you actually hold 3 to royal over dealt flush with it paying 25 coins for a flush...

Fun game   :gun

why does it matter what kind of roll you need?  either it's worth playing or it isn't, unless you're going to play it until the royal hits then who cares how much the roll is.

and i would argue that if you're going to sit there for 4 hours with a 90% chance of losing money then it isn't worth it

then again i'd rather pull my own toenails out then sit at a video poker machine for 4 hours, others feel differently

.....not a fan of progressives, although obviously rewarding longterm.

To much work, and usually on single line boring machines.

This really begs the question.. If you were forced to choose, would you rather pull your own toenails out or pull someone else's toenails out?

Other people's feet scare me.
