A canoe is great if you have a cabin on a lake.

Otherwise, it's all about pulling it out of the garage, putting it on the car, driving it to the lake, taking it off the car, lugging it to the lake, paddling around on a hot day, putting it back on the car, driving home, lugging it into the garage, etc...

My new place has a private boat dock so I might purchase some sort of small boat to float around on for the hell of it. Guess I could just get a kayak or canoe, but I was thinking just one of those small metal boats w the tiny engines.

What lake? Lake Merced?
