Guest ChrisHarvard
I know a couple years ago you could only get the NFL package with Direct TV. Which explains why these goofballs sign up for Direct TV just to get the NFL package "free". Of course when you're paying an extraordinary amount month to month it is not worth it. I know that Cox does not offer it because that's what I have. Only Redzone. Redzone is so fucking stupid. Unless you're a parlay punter, an OVER punter, or just like to see points scored for the sheer damn amusement of it? I would not want to watch 20 seconds at a time of every team in the league. I want to see the team I have action on every snap. I rarely have problems streaming games for free in the NFL. Other sports, small schools in college, sometimes the feed is choppy or will freeze every now and then.
StayGolden
Yes, they still own exclusive rights, they have for the last 20 years, and are about to sign a deal with NFL to extend those exclusive rights for 10 more years. They pay almost 1.5 billion a year for those rights.
Guest ChrisHarvard
Golden do you have Direct TV? What is their service like?
StayGolden
used to many years ago, cancelled it after 1 month. Way too many signal outages when it stormed, or just rained.... they have their customers by the balls, they hike rates every year. NFL Ticket is pretty much only thing keeping them in business. Guest ChrisHarvard
Exactly. Every one I know has said the same shit you just said. Just a slight breeze (not drew brees) and the signal is messed up.
maron
The Ticket Package can be available ...you have to prove that you can not get their provider and then you can stream to tablet and such. Only people that can prove they can not get the service are those in apartment buildings and on college campuses

Doughy
Yeah, RedZone is a joke and I can't have a dish so I set up 2 computers streaming games and have the TV show whatever local games I get. It's not ideal, but I hate going to a bar, dropping 60 bucks, and watching my game with no sound because they have the Giants game or the Jets with the sound. TommyL
I can't say enough good things about DirecTV. I was worried about outages, but get them about once every three months with really bad tstorms. The sports options are second to none, especially if you like golf and tennis. And of course the Sunday ticket. And I pay about the same today as I did with Comcast.

hustledouble
The first year with DirecTV is great. They back end everything to make the pries look attractive. Your first year with the "Ultimate" package is $44.99, but it goes up to $89.99 the next year. And yes your first Sunday Ticket year is free but you pay a ridiculous amount the next year. He set the dish up inside. It worked fine. Picked up the signal through the window. As long as you have a window with a clear view to Dallas,TX. Exactly. And I'll add that when it does go out, it's usually out for no more than 5 minutes (and the funny thing is, it always goes out just before the really heavy stuff hits, so you know that a monsoon is on the way). The big key with DTV is to call in once a year and threaten to leave to get some discounts. I'm due for a call next week, and I'll usually get some combination of free channels, something off the Sunday ticket, discounts on some of my current packages, etc. I haven't run into issues with price increases because I always work out a deal with them each September. Doughy
Why? Trees? No, I'm just in an apartment where I don't want a huge dish sitting in my living room, even if it works. I'll just watch my teams online or when they're on TV. I'll save some money, too.
hustledouble
Apartments aren't legally allowed to prevent you from having a satellite dish, the only thing they can stop you from is having the dish affixed to the outside of the building. Landlord's can face serious fines for not allowing a dish.
The Seer
It was $69 when I first bought it. I canceled now because for what it costs, I can go to a sports bar five times for free.
Brutus Buckeye
You can take advantage of them having exclusive rights. They pay the NFL a ridiculous amount of money, and since the money is already paid, DIRECT TV is willing to take ANY money they can from you. Therefore there's no reason to pay full price or even half price. You can talk them down to $100 a season maybe less

And then, the discounts stopped, and it seemed like everything else went up, and now I get charged a ridiculous amount for service. I don't even watch much TV except for some games.
