You would think the Vikings would have at least one Super Bowl with that kind of consistency

I love looking back at NFL history through the years.

In the Super Bowl era 1966 through 2017 the Minnesota Vikings have made the postseason 30 times overall, out of those 30 trips to the playoffs there were 10 times they made it to the NFC Championship. Out of those 10 title games they were able to make it to the Super Bowl 4 times. However they weren't able to win one. They were able to win their division 20 times.

There are a lot of teams who had long stretches of winning then long stretches of losing but there were only a small amount of teams who were able to be consist and win most of the time.

From 1966 to 2017 over 50 years Minnesota's worst stretch of losing seasons/no postseason was three years. Thats incredible.

From 1966 to 2017 over 50 years Dallas's worst stretch of losing seasons/no postseason was five years.

From 1973 to 2017 over 45 Denver's worst stretch of losing seasons/no postseason was five years. Denver didn't do well from 1966 through 1972.

From 1972 to 2017 over 45 Pittsburgh's worst stretch of losing seasons/no postseason was four years. Steelers didn't do well from 1966 through 1972.

There are certain teams that did well at times and terrible at other times, some that were always changing, etc.

For instance if you were to do the Super Bowl era starting in 1966 and then you decide to stop in 1990 instead of 2017 the results overall would be drastically different.

The Browns were pretty much next to last place going from 1966 to 2017 however if you start from 1966 and go through 1990 suddenly the Browns are 7th best. From 1990 through 2017 the Browns lost a lot to go from 7th best to almost the worst team.

If you were to go from 1966 through 1990 the Green Bay Packers were 20th overall in winning percentage. Not good. But going fron 1966 through 2017 they are 9th overall the reason for the jump is because from 1990 through 2017 the Packers won a lot.

The Saints ended up having 20 straight losing seasons from the mid sixties through the mid eighties.

The Cowboys ended up having 20 straight winning seasons from the mid sixties through the mid eighties.
