The Green Bay Packers host their first preseason game Thursday, Aug. 9 at 7 p.m. central vs. the Tennessee Titans at Lambeau Field.

According to Packers.com, this marks the second consecutive season the Packers will open the preseason at home. The Packers and Titans previously opened the preseason against each other in 2014.

Thursday night’s matchup will mark the Titans’ first preseason trip to Green Bay since playing in the finale in 2008.

According to Packers.com, Tennessee has won four of the past five regular-season meetings.

The Packers and Titans last met on Nov. 13, 2016 at Nissan Stadium. The Titans won 47-25. In this game the Titans led 21-0 after one quarter and 35-10 at halftime in a game that Tennessee dominated completely.

On the Titans very first play from scrimmage RB Demarco Murray ran 75 yards for a TD. QB Marcus Mariota threw for 4TD/0 INT ,300 yards passing and a 149.8 qb rating.

Aaron Rodgers in a losing effort completed 31 of 51 passes for 371 yards with 2TD & 2INT.

Also as far as how they did last year Packers were 7-9 and Titans were 9-7 and made the playoffs mainly due to Mariota who led the NFL with 5 come from behind victories including the playoffs where he mounted the greatest road comeback in NFL history coming back from an 18 point deficit after halftime to win 22-21.

GM Jon Robinson is trying to lead Tennessee to its third straight winning season along with back to back playoffs while Packers have a new GM Brian Gutekunst.

                                    TENNESSEE TITANS/GREEN BAY PACKERS HISTORY

Titans lead this series winning 4 games to the Packers 1 game

                                                         Winner in bold below

12/16/2001......GREEN BAY 20 @  TENNESSEE 26

Tennessee won this first meeting and they did so by keeping the ball nearly 38 minutes compared to the 22 minutes Green Bay did. The first score of the game was a safety when the Titans got Ahman Green in the end zone. Green Bay led part of the first and second quarter and the score at the half was 15-13 Titans up by two. Tennessee had 423 total yards to Green Bay 223 exactly 200 more yards altogether. Green Bay got to within six but no closer as the game ended.

10/11/2004........TENNESSEE 48 @  GREEN BAY 27

This was a Monday night game up at Lambeau Field in Green Bay. However it was not to be the Packers night as the Titans built up a 17-0 lead before the first quarter was over. Tennesee was up 24-3 at one point in the second quarter. Tennessee were able to intercept 3 passes from Bret Favre. Tennessee had 224 yards rushing to Green Bay's 35. Tennessee won their second straight game in the series between Titans/Packers.

11/02/2008.......GREEN BAY 16 @  TENNESSEE 19 (OT)

Aaron Rodgers debut against Tennessee. Out of the five games these two teams have played against each other over the past couple decades this one was the closest one in many respects. In nearly every statistic in this game the two teams were close. When it was all done after four quarters it was a tie so they went to overtime and Titans FG kicker Rob Bironas hit the 41 yard winner.

12/23/2012.....TENNESSEE 7 @  GREEN BAY 55

Of all of the Titans four franchise QB's McNair,Young,Mariota and Locker there were three who had wins against Green Bay and the one who didnt was Jake Locker. The QB who busted and ushered in the worst era in Titans 20 year history as the team had 4 straight losing seasons thats the longest stretch of losing in Titans history. 2012 through 2015 were not good years. Tennessee had no chance in this one.

11/13/2016......GREEN BAY 25 @  TENNESSEE 47

Tennessee very first play from scrimmage was a 75 yard run by RB Demarco Murray. At the end of the first quarter it was 21-0 Titans and at halftime the score was 35-16 as the Titans scored 35 first half points the most by a team in one half for that entire season. This was a game that the Titans had control of from the very beginning and never let up. Marcus Mariota had 4TD and 0INT in this game.

Hardly Packers vs Titans

Random scrubs vs random scrubs

Titans lead the series 4 games to 1 in all games between the Titans/Packers in the Titans 20 year history.

Watch the 2016 game below in its entirety......

Demarco Murray ran for a 75 yard TD on the first play of the Titans first possession and it was all downhill from there as the Titans scored 35 first half points. QB Marcus Mariota had 4TD passes on the day as well......

GREEN Bay, Wisc. -- The Titans face the Green Bay Packers in the preseason opener on Thursday night at Lambeau Field.

Here’s a look at six things to watch:

Mike Vrabel’s debut

We’ve seen new Titans coach Mike Vrabel in press conferences. We’ve seen him on the practice field. Here on Thursday, he’ll make his head coaching debut with the Titans. It’s been fun to watch Vrabel control practices, and communicate with his players. Now he’ll get a chance to run the show from the sideline after running out of the tunnel at historic Lambeau Field. How will he handle in-game situations? What will his plan be out of the gate? Will the Titans have a “clean operation” like he’s looking for? It’s one reason to watch.

Matt LaFleur calling the shots

Vrabel hired Matt LaFleur to be his offensive coordinator, and he’ll call his first game with the Titans vs. the Packers. LaFleur, formerly with the Los Angeles Rams, actually called his first game against Green Bay a year ago – in the fourth preseason game. Chances are LaFleur won’t give away too many secrets during the preseason. But the games will be a nice test on how quickly the plays are called, and what he might allow the first team offense to do.

Marcus Mariota/progress of offense

Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota isn’t expected to play much in this one. He’ll be in a baseball cap most of the contest. When he’s out there, he’d like to get into a rhythm and build confidence with some of the team’s receivers. In practices, the offense has made progress over the past few months, but it’s clearly a work in progress. We’ll begin to get some hints on that progress against the Packers.

Harold Landry

First-round pick Rashaan Evans won’t play after being held out of recent practices. Neither will outside linebacker Brian Orakpo. Second-round pick Harold Landry, however, should be fun to watch at edge rusher, in his first NFL game. Landry has lined up with the first team unit in practices, working a lot against left tackle Taylor Lewan. It will be nice to see how he fares against the Packers in his NFL debut.

The "MMCNB" crew

The secondary has been top-notch in practices, recording interceptions while setting a tone with an aggressive style of play. It sounds like Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers probably won’t play in this one, so the Titans will instead face backups Brett Hundley and DeShone Kizer, and possibly fourth-stringer Tim Boyle. Will the “My Man Catches No Balls” crew wreak havoc from the get-go? I wouldn’t expect to see the front-liners on the field much, so backups will get the most chances.

The rookies

Speaking of back-ups, this will be a chance for some of the undrafted free agents to make a splash. I’m looking forward to seeing how receivers Deontay Burnett, Jordan Veasy and Devin Ross perform, along with running backs Akrum Wadley and Dalyn Dawkins. All have flashed in camp. Tight end Anthony Firkser is one to keep an eye on. Defensively, cornerback Rico Gafford has a chance to help himself if he continues to make plays. Quarterback Luke Falk had one of his best practices in camp last Friday at Centennial. How will he fare on Thursday night?
