Mike75
Harold Landry was stellar in the Titans’ preseason opener against the Packers. His performance was enough to land him on Pro Football Focus’ defensive Team of the Week. Landry’s 92.0 overall grade was the fifth-highest grade the football analytics site dished out for the first week of preseason action. He didn’t get a ton of reps, but he was very effective when he did play. Anything above 90 is considered elite based on PFF’s grading scale so that’s pretty high praise. He got to run with the first team against Green Bay on Thursday night and didn’t disappoint. On only 13 pass-rushes he collected a strip sack and another hurry. A very solid debut for the second-rounder. Tennessee were due to pick 57th in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft. Titans GM Jon Robinson noticed something when pick forty was announced there was a pass rusher/OLB he thought should've flown off the board a long time before but he was still available...... Anyway Robinson called Oakland and offered the Titans second round pick at #57 and their third round pick at #89 to move up and get Oakland's #41 pick so the Titans wouldn't have to wait sixteen picks to get another player. The player Tennessee noticed still available was OLB Harold Landry a first round prospect in a lot of people's eyes. The Titans got him at #41. The football world took notice of the big night for the 41st overall pick and are beginning to say what we have been saying here since the draft: how the heck did the rest of the NFL let this guy slide to 41? Anyway with 4 minutes left in the 1st quarter when watching the game you'll see one of the many moves Landry has in his arsenal to get not only a sack but a strip sack but the fumble was recovered by Green Bay. A lot of football experts say he looks like a young Von Miller. Landry shows incredible burst off of the edge, doesn’t quit on plays, and can single-handedly improve a defense. He possesses a unique ability to bend the edge as a pass rusher and use his speed, athleticism and long arms to get to the quarterback. Landry could have entered the NFL Draft after he led the nation with 16.5-sacks his junior season at Boston College in 2016. His seven forced fumbles also ranked first nationally. However, he chose to stay in school and in 2017 finished with five sacks and totaled 38 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss and two passes defensed. His stats were down due to being injured. In 46 career games playing defensive end for Boston College, he totaled 160 tackles, 26 sacks, 47.5 tackles for loss, seven passes defensed, 10 forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and one interception. Don't believe me when i say pass rushers are highly coveted and hard to find? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-s41guiPsRE In the 2018 NFL Draft the New Orleans Saints wanted to move up 13 spots from #27 all the way to pick #14 so they could draft a pass rusher. To move up 13 spots not only would the Saints give up their original first round pick at #27 but they'd also give up a 5th round pick at #147. BUT thats not all by a long shot, the Saints also had to give up a 2019 first round pick. It was just the third time in the past 15 years that a team had packaged two first-round picks to move up and draft a non-quarterback All for the rights to pick Marcus Davenport a 6-foot-6, 250-pound defensive end with long arms, explosive burst, and an array of pass-rushing moves. The Saints' stunning move underscored just how important -- and just how difficult -- it has become for NFL teams to acquire top pass-rushers. A strong argument could be made that elite edge rushers have become the second most elusive commodity behind franchise quarterbacks. Davenport currently has Pro Football Focus' third-highest grade among all 4-3 defensive ends in the country, trailing just Bradley Chubb and Nick Bosa. On 199 pass-rush snaps in 2017, Davenport has accumulated 43 pressures (eight sacks, six hits, 29 hurries). And Davenport's run-stopping grade is the third-best among all players at his position. Beyond all that, he isn't some obscure, one-year wonder. In 2016, he had the No. 15 overall PFF grade among 159 qualifying 3-4 outside linebackers. The year before that, Davenport was given the No. 62 overall grade among 286 4-3 defensive ends who qualified. During his four collegiate seasons, Davenport notched career totals of 186 tackles (97 solo), 22 sacks, 38 tackles for loss, six forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, one returned for a touchdown and eight passes defensed, finishing his career as the school’s all-time leader for stops for loss, takedowns and quarterback hurries (21). ”Look at how hard it can be to find pass-rushers,” one exec said. “Tampa Bay just gave a third-rounder for a 29-year-old JPP [Jason Pierre-Paul] and was willing to pay his contract. Denver who already have Von Miller used their 2018 first round pick on......Bradley Chubb a pass rushing outside linebacker from NC State who broke Mario Williams sack record. "You can never have enough pass-rushers." Every team is looking for the next Von Miller who himself was the second player chosen in the 2011 NFL Draft. During his Pro Day, however, one scout compared him to Hall of Famer Derrick Thomas. Miller was drafted by the Denver Broncos second overall in the 2011 NFL Draft. He was the highest selected linebacker since LaVar Arrington went No. 2 to the Washington Redskins in 2000. Miller has 83 sacks,21 forced fumbles,5 fumble recoveries,1 interception in 7 years On March 1, 2016, the Broncos placed the exclusive franchise tag on Miller. On July 15, Miller signed a 6-year deal worth $114.5 million featuring $70 million guaranteed with the Broncos. He became the highest paid defensive player in NFL history, with the highest amount of guaranteed salary. JJ Watt is up there among the best with Miller. Both were drafted in the first round of the 2011 draft. Watt has 76 sacks,47 passes defended,15 forced fumbles,1 interception in 7 years. As for the best pass rushing tandem?? The Los Angeles Chargers are lucky enough to have two great players on the edge in Joey Bosa and Melvin Ingram Bosa finished with a team-high 10.5 sacks in just 12 games and went on to win the 2016 Defensive Rookie of the Year award. Meanwhile, Ingram racked up 18.5 sacks over the last two seasons, including eight last year, which was good for second on the team. According to Pro Football Focus, Bosa and Ingram ranked fifth and sixth overall, respectively, among edge rushers. Both also finished in the top 10 in PFF’s pass-rush productivity. In 2017 Chandler Jones led the NFL in sacks with 17. DeMarcus Lawrence and Calais Campbell both had 14.5. Cameron Jordan and Everson Griffen both had 13. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DQzV1hXVPxM
