Man says FanDuel Sportsbook won’t pay out large bet

EAST RUTHERFORD -
A Newark man says that he won a large bet at the Meadowlands Sunday but FanDuel Sportsbook won’t pay out.

Anthony Prince says that he made a long-shot bet for the Denver Broncos to defeat the Oakland Raiders during last Sunday’s game. The Raiders had been winning for nearly all four quarters at the time, but the Broncos started to come back.

Prince says that he was not watching the game at the time, but with only 1 minute, 10 seconds left in the game, and a score of 19-17, he made a bet on the Broncos to win.

He says that he put $110 down at a plus-75,000 bet. If he won, he would win $82,610.

The Broncos ended up winning with only 10 seconds left in the game. But when Prince went up to the window to collect his winnings, he said that the teller would not pay out the bet.

“They said their system had a glitch in it and they’re not obligated to pay for glitches,” Prince says.

Prince says that instead he was offered $500 and skybox seats for three Giants games. But Prince says that he declined.

“The other guy said, ‘You should take what we give you because we don’t have to give you [anything] at all.’ I said, ‘Wow, for real?’” Prince says.

A spokesperson for FanDuel says that the company is currently investigating the matter.

But Prince says that he feels cheated.

“The government is taxing it now so I thought it would be a better situation. You'd rather go to the corner bookies now. You're not getting paid here,” he says.

Prince says that he plans on getting an attorney involved. He says that he will also contact the New Jersey Division of Gaming to make a complaint.

no way. It sets a bad precedent. It was clearly a bad line.

Vegas books are obligated to pay bad lines?

We always paid off on bad numbers, but never had anything close to this. The worst one I remember was the Pistons should have been -900 to win a series but the clerk put in +900.

One guy hit it for a dime before it was discovered and he was paid.

gotcha.

I'm trying to figure out what the line was supposed to be here. +750 would even be too high so it's not as if it was a decimal issue.

That said, I dont see how they pay that out without setting a bad precedent but we'll see.

I've seen a -10 be a +10 in NCAAF at the Venetian (before they were Cantor).  I've seen a halftime NBA total of 62 before at Leroy's.  There are at least a couple of bad errors once a year or so.

But if someone hits them hard, the book has the right to throw that person out.  Book the bet, pay the bet.  Throw the person out if necessary.

That's how it should be.

He claims to have made the bet with 1:10 left.   Here's the play by play.   I'm not familiar enough with live betting to know what the line should have been at that time.

  1. Denver Broncos at 01:58
  2. 1-10-DEN 20(1:58) (Shotgun) 4-C.Keenum pass incomplete short left to 80-J.Butt [99-A.Key]. PENALTY on DEN-72-G.Bolles, Offensive Holding, 10 yards, enforced at DEN 20 - No Play.
  3. 1-20-DEN 10(1:51) (Shotgun) 4-C.Keenum pass incomplete short right to 88-De.Thomas (22-R.Melvin).
  4. 2-20-DEN 10(1:47) (Shotgun) 4-C.Keenum pass deep right to 10-E.Sanders to DEN 31 for 21 yards (29-L.Hall).
  5. 1-10-DEN 31(1:25) (No Huddle, Shotgun) 4-C.Keenum pass incomplete deep right to 88-De.Thomas (22-R.Melvin).
  6. 2-10-DEN 31(1:21) (Shotgun) 4-C.Keenum pass short left to 80-J.Butt to DEN 45 for 14 yards (21-G.Conley; 31-M.Gilchrist).
  7. 1-10-DEN 45(:58) (No Huddle, Shotgun) 4-C.Keenum pass incomplete short left to 14-C.Sutton [51-B.Irvin].
  8. 2-10-DEN 45(:54) (Shotgun) 4-C.Keenum scrambles right end to OAK 48 for 7 yards (59-T.Whitehead).
  9. 3-3-OAK 48(:26) (No Huddle, Shotgun) 4-C.Keenum pass short right to 82-J.Heuerman pushed ob at OAK 44 for 4 yards (59-T.Whitehead).
  10. 1-10-OAK 44(:22) (Shotgun) 4-C.Keenum pass incomplete short right to 88-De.Thomas.
  11. 2-10-OAK 44(:18) (Shotgun) 4-C.Keenum pass short left to 81-T.Patrick ran ob at OAK 18 for 26 yards (27-R.Nelson).
  12. 1-10-OAK 18(:10) 8-B.McManus 36 yard field goal is GOOD, Center-42-C.Kreiter, Holder-1-M.King.
  13. OAK 19    DEN 20    Plays: 10    Possession: 1:52

This particular player was in fact booted after cashing his ticket.

I never had a problem with guys playing bad numbers as long as they weren’t trying to circumvent limits and that they let me know we hung a bad number after they bet it.

What they should be doing is firing whoever set the line.  Expensive lesson.

No "computer glitch" causes a line to be set at +75000.  When you support a book in this scenario, you support their ability to freeroll players down the road - which could have been exactly what they were doing to begin with.

You get what you ask for.  Never would have seen so many people side with books on this stuff years ago.  It's crazy how the offshore books have brainwashed players into thinking that is right.
