What is it?

Mine are Alzheimer’s Association

Hilarity for Charity

Humane Society

I give here and there to other things but after giving the Heart Association 15 bucks once over the phone once and then having name sold to every possible charity in the history of the world ever, I will not do that again.

Solid choices IAG.

I donate here and there to Veterans groups such as the American Legion and the VFW that have specific programs that you can specify your donation to. I usually add a little to their funds for the college educations of soldiers killed in combat.

Notice to all: Wounded Warriors is a huge scam with very little donated dollars actually going to Veterans, stay away.

wounded warrior is horrible.  I won that TGF sponsored contest where I donated a dime or so.  Since then I have received at least 2-3 pieces of mail per week from them begging for more.  They have spent more than my dime chasing more.

The Heart Association sent me some address labels a couple years ago. My parents always had those pre-printed labels and thought they were handy, so when they called a few weeks later I made the comment that I would throw them a bone because I really liked the address labels.

Within a month or so, every single day I would receive the address labels from different charities in the mail. I can’t even tell you. It was ridiculous. Every single day multiple solicitations. I got tons of calendars, notepads, I now probably have 50 different sets of address labels. Every charity you could think of plus some that I had never heard of. During this time I had not given another penny to any of these charities. It’s too bad too, because they were a couple I would’ve a thrown a few bucks to, but I’m scared to death of getting on another mailing list so I won’t do it. I could do it anonymously somehow I suppose but shouldn’t have to do that.

I just gave some money to a Cincinnati book drive, but I think I am OK there. Luckily I think they have given up and I have stopped receiving so many solicitations. I might get one a week now. Nothing like it was.

Doctors Without Borders is one I like. Can't help but think your money is wasted on charities since they probably get plenty from corporations and your money just winds up going to the highly paid execs. Like everything else in the US, there is a lot of scam to charity.

For sure. That is why I usually like to do local charities or go fund mes... Alzheimer’s Association was very helpful to me from an informational standpoint when I was going through that with mom, so I like to remember them here and there....more for what they do for the caregivers, than any hope of them finding a cure.

Doctors Without Borders scores 97 out of 100 with Charity Navigator and its exec only makes 200K with presidents making 50K. Pretty impressive. And they really do stuff.

Haha same thing here. I have so many sheets of labels that it would be -EV to move!
