Sol Aristatel
There are so many variables Yeah. At least 1.5 million. But as much as 3 million. That's my best guesstimate to retire right now with my current lifestyle.
IAG
Yes. I've seen people that retired with 350K in their 30s. It all depends on what your expectations are. They may think they have retired....lol. I can’t see how that is doable uness you are really basically homeless and living off the land or something. A prefab one costs about 60K. You can buy a house for that much in rural America.

I can’t see how that is doable uness you are really basically homeless and living off the land or something. They are extremist. There is a whole subculture. It's called extreme early retirement. They make a go of it. But not something for the average American. There are quite a few people living pretty normal lives that way.

MonkeyF0cker
I will never retire. I'll always have something I'm working on. Can't imagine sitting around doing nothing all day with nothing to look forward to. I'd go insane.
Sol Aristatel
I will never retire. I'll always have something I'm working on. Do you equate "working on something" as having to make money? If you don't have to make any more money to live the life you want, then you are already retired. Regardless if you are technically "working" now or not.

theguesser
A Million is no longer all it's cracked up to be. It also depends on the region you want to live in.

mikeman
It depends on your expenses, I would say generally speaking 6-800 K would be sufficient, assuming SS provides a chunk and you're not motivated to leave money to heirs.
