Golf Addict
Bovada suffers unprecedented $1M+ loss on Frank Mirs UFC upset last night. I. I don't know if bovada, or any sportsbook, can sustain that type of loss on UFC, let alone a single UFC event. Bovada might be done

WVU
If they actually took in that kind of action on a single UFC match then I think they are going to be fine.
Sharp Square
Seems like a large figure for a UFC fight. Didn't think limits were all that high on those there so had to be a ton of action over all.
brownsfan
I wonder how the blackjack tables at Bovada are playing today.
Golf Addict
So It had to do with people parlaying all the underdogs. For the first time in UFC history, the underdog won...every fight. All. Nine fights were won by the dog. Wow bovada if bovada actually pays they are finished so I doubt they will pay. http://espn.go.com/chalk/story/_/id/...fight-night-
ajt
It was $1 million for the whole event, not that one fight. And they said a lot of it was from parlays that were on all the dogs (there were 10 straight underdog winners).
Guest boatboatboat
bovada spend double that per year on marketing they can withstand 1mill
WVU
bovada spend double that per year on marketing they can withstand 1mill I think they spend much more than 2 million per year on marketing. Casino on Net's marketing budget was 2 million per month in 2001 when my team took down 1.65 mil on that roulette promo.
Golf Addict
bovada spend double that per year on marketing they can withstand 1mill Just because they spend a lot of money to get people to deposit does not mean they can or will pay out a million friggin dollars on UFC fights. NFL or nba...maybe. But a million dollar hit on medium sized Brazilian UFC card? That is devastating This is a book that takes a month and a half to pay players $500 on football winnings. You think they are going to pay $1,000,000 on a UFC fight? That one guy in the article who bet $4 and won $85,000, you actually think he will get paid? I say no way
ajt
It's not going to hurt them. They are just trying to get some free advertising out of it.

The OP insinuated that Bovada from a balance sheet perspective couldn't withstand this kinda hit. he is WRONG

Golf Addict
Look I'm fairly new to this and only been playing offshore for a few months so maybe you guys are right, but $1,000,000 loss on single night of UFC seems like a painful hit for a Vegas casino to take, let alone an illegal island sportsbook. The guy who won $85 grand off the $4 parlay for example, how are they going to pay him? My friend plays at bovada and says it takes them over a month to send him $500. Are they just going to send this guy $700 money grams over and over for the next 5 years?
Guest boatboatboat
Bovada is larger than many vegas casino sports books.
Golf Addict
In your opinion how will they go about paying the bettor who won 85 large? I'm curious, not being a smart ass here. Btw your tout phone call recordings are hilarious
Patrick McIrish
I know Paddy over at Peeps is enjoying this, LOL. Seems like a large figure for a UFC fight. Didn't think limits were all that high on those there so had to be a ton of action over all. Exactly. No way they lost 1 million on the Mir fight. I don't believe it. Guest boatboatboat
I have no clue how they will pay. My point is that if they WANT to pay they have the funds to do so.

Btw your tout phone call recordings are hilarious Been quite some time since I've played there, but they used to be able to wire larger amounts. Otherwise they can do 3k checks weekly. Take 6 months probably.

I don't think any of these books can lose a million on a single fight in a small/medium UFC card. I haven't been posted up there in years but I couldn't bet more than a nickel on any UFC wager at BoDog.

This was just a ridiculous case of every dog winning. Surprised they had a bunch of dog parlays -- probably had more favorites and actually won, just looking for publicity. Can't imagine a bunch of long time still welcomed players of this outfit stringing together a bunch of dog parlays. Not a few, but tons of them? Doubtful. They do like the press. I remember them not paying out on a bunch of $50 Survivor bets in the past, LOL. Due to the location of where these bets were coming from they insisted it was insider betting from the network I suppose.... :mutley
