Venezuela is the richest country in South America. It is ruled by elites. Socialist would distribute the oil revenues to the public and they would live in prosperity. Castro was a socialist and Cubans are well fed, well educated and have excellent healthcare. He was the real deal. Venezuela has oil and is no Cuba despite the world being united against it. He was not even as rich as Jerry Jones. His primary interest was that of helping the Cuban people which he did by providing govt services. The reason Cubans are poor is because of the United States and its sanctions. Castro performed miracles compared to what you will find in South America which is run by the US. The US waged economic warfare on Cuba for more than 50 years and barely made a dent in the regime because he took care of Cubans. The other option was another Batista.
