mikeman Posted July 21, 2019 Report Share Posted July 21, 2019 I was 9 when apollo 11 landed, back then kids dreamed about a future in space, that the world would be amazing place - Star Trek had come out just a few years before, The movie 2001 a space odyssey painted what we imagined perfectly. I think what Mike means is that at the time we were so gung-ho on space exploration that the perception was that we'd be vacationing on Jupiter within 50 years. I remember talk that we could be on Mars by 1980, others said nope, it'll be much longer, like 1990. Think of where we were as a country, and where we are now. 50 years after placing a man on the moon we are incapable of even launching a man into space? That the money should be used here on earth to help people and solve problems? Well, we've been doing that for decades, did it work, did it help?
