ERBtheGREAT
So I filed my taxes already and got 1,700 back. Today I get in the mail a W-2 from my part time job where I thought I was just getting paid cash. I get a W-2 showing I made 1,000 for the year, wtf. Any idea what to do? I already filed with turbo tax my primary job and got the money back, now today I got the W-2 for my part time? Why did it come so late? milwaukee mike
1040x amended return needs to be filed... and also amended return for the state. Depending on your tax bracket, if they didn't withhold much you will owe around 150 or 250 to the IRS (if single then the 25% bracket kicks in at 37k of taxable income) and maybe another 50 to the state... ERBtheGREAT
Thanks MM. Where do I file the 1040x amended if I did my last one on turbo tax?
milwaukee mike
Thanks MM. Where do I file the 1040x amended if I did my last one on turbo tax? You have to mail one in, print out a copy of your 1040 from turbo tax and it should be easy to do the 1040x. where to mail it is based on your state, look at the last page of the 2nd link for mailing address. http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f1040x.pdf http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/i1040x.pdf

Monitor-Tan
if you use turbo tax after you log in click the 2014 tax thing and then on the top somewhere there's a button where you can click on amend my return. Print it out and mail it. Don't forget to curse every word you can think of while going to the post office while sending while uncle sam collects more cash off you

Hedge
Best to do the Federal 1040X first and wait until they accept your changes before doing your amended state return.
milwaukee mike
Best to do the Federal 1040X first and wait until they accept your changes before doing your amended state return. i totally disagree with this 1) you will never know if IRS accepted or didn't accept your changes, all they do is cash a check and never send any correspondence back 2) IRS tells the state if/when they make an adjustment that is accepted by the taxpayer, so if it's from an IRS notice (not an amended return) you should still file the state immediately or the state will send out a nasty letter
