College Football Betting -- Miami Goes with True Frosh at QB in Monday Night Battle with Louisville

The Miami Hurricanes went into spring practice thinking they might have strength at the quarterback spot, with two fifth-year seniors available at the position. But as it turns out, they are going to be starting a true freshman as they begin the 2014 regular season, and the opponent isn't a particularly friendly one. The Louisville Cardinals pummeled the 'Canes the last time these teams took the field, and Miami must get something substantial in a hurry from their newcomer as they travel to Papa John's Cardinal Stadium for college football betting action that is set to begin at 8 PM ET.

Louisville was 12-1 straight-up last season, although just 5-7-1 against the football pointspread, and they are going through something of a transition themselves, as they lost standout quarterback Teddy Bridgewater to the Minnesota Vikings in the first round of the NFL draft, as well as coach Charlie Strong to the Texas Longhorns. But they bring back a considerable amount of talent from the team that blasted Miami 36-9 in the Russell Athletic Bowl when these teams were last seen.

In the college football betting odds that have been established on this game by the folks at America's Bookie, the Cardinals are favored by a field goal:

Louisville Cardinals -3 (-120)

Miami Hurricanes +3 (+100)

Over 54 Points -110

Under 54 points -110

It was unfortunate for Miami that it lost Ryan Williams in the spring to an ACL tear that will keep him out for the rest of the season. The Memphis transfer would have most likely been the starter if he had remained healthy. But there was an insurance policy, in that they had another fifth-year senior in Jake Heaps, who has been around the horn, so to speak, playing two years at BYU, then moving on to Kansas before transferring yet again to Miami. But Heaps has been slowed a bit by an elbow injury, the result of an accident during camp, and even though he says it is alright now, his performances in drills essentially lost the starting job to someone the coaching staff thought was more impressive, or at least that is the word college football bettors have been given.

That is true freshman Brad Kaaya, who probably had no idea when he committed to this program that he would be in this position now. The defenders who have been scrimmaging against him are amazed at the poise he has shown. AndAmerica's Bookie patrons know he will need all the poise he can get against a defense that may have graduated some people, but has plenty of reinforcements from the unit that led the nation last season and held Miami to just 174 yards in the bowl game.

Kaaya won 23 of his 26 starts in high school the last two years in West Hills, CA, and is said to have very good mechanics and the ability to make decisions quickly. At 6'4", he is ideally sized for the position. And if he needs backup, Heaps is always in place as a relief pitcher, although he has to be disappointed about being benched for his third different Division I program.

One thing that college football bettors at America's Bookie are aware of is that Duke Johnson can make things a lot easier for him. Johnson, as good a back athletically as there may be in the

country, has averaged 6.8 and 6.3 yards per carry in his two seasons, but broke his ankle against eventual national champion Florida State last year and was lost for the remainder of the campaign. has Miami closed the gap enough since December? Not sure about that: Louisville -3.

Think this will be a good close game so I am going with the most experienced team with the better

coach and QB playing @ home. Don't like laying the hook here as it could very well be a 3 point

game but I think Louisville pulls away late and wins 34-24................

Dam Boat that's a bitch of a TB.....................(LOL)
