Mofome
Pitcher Tejay Antone came within one out of Dayton’s first nine-inning complete game since 2008 as the Dragons earned their fifth straight victory Wednesday night, defeating the South Bend Cubs 3-1 in a game that featured a bench-clearing brawl that led to the ejections of six players.A fight broke out in the top of the fourth after Dayton’s Shed Long scored from third on a sac fly. Long and South Bend catcher Gioskar Amaya became involved in a physical confrontation, resulting in players from both dugouts and bullpens rushing the home-plate area. The situation escalated and punches were thrown. Dragons ejected were Long, Jose Ortiz, and Chadwick Tromp. Amaya, starting pitcher Trevor Clifton and first baseman Cael Brockmeyer were tossed from South Bend.It was the first such incident in a Dragons game since the infamous June 2008 melee at Fifth Third Field against Peoria after which Peoria pitcher Julio Castillo faced criminal charges for throwing a baseball that injured a fan. Fifteen players and both managers were ejected in that incident.Antone (4-6) eventually continued his fine work, scattering seven hits and walking one while striking out two. He threw 89 pitches before Brian Hunter replaced him with two down in the ninth and a runner at second. Hunter got David Bote to ground out to end the game. The win kept the Dragons two games out of the wild-card spot with four games to play in the first-half playoff race.- See more at: http://www.whio.com/news/sports/dragons-get-win-after-brawling-south-bend/nmfsK/#__federated=
